A long, long time ago, there once lived a dragon goddess who resided by a river that cut across the land. She had two forms: The first, a lovely river dragon who would chase her divine pearl across the skies, bringing rain for the humans. The second, a benevolent maiden who managed a temple for the lost and the poor, up in the mountains.
But one day, a band of humans rode a boat down the river. When they saw the maiden's shining pearl, greed came, and the humans attacked her. They wanted the treasure for themselves. Only to be surprised by a sky-high dragon with a deathly aura. Then, the humans feel to their knees and trembled, begging for mercy. When provoked, all dragons were known to annihilate their enemies, leaving ashes or an underwater grave for others to find.
However, this one did not attack back. Rather, she allowed the humans to flee with their lives. For dragons, her kindness was a mistake.
Once the humans returned home, word of the event spread... And they all came to a consensus: Why must the dragons not share their divine treasures with the humans? It is not fair, and so, why should they co-exist while dragons hoard treasures and are far more dangerous? Humans do NOT need dragons! They must be vanquished!
Meanwhile, word of the event spread among the dragons...who also came to a consensus: Humans NEED dragons! They must learn their place.
Hence, war ensued between the dragons and the humans... And down came the river dragon goddess' temple. And the bodies of the innocent. As well as the dragon who succumbed to her crossfire injuries. And became one with the river.
Time flowed by, and all became forgotten over time. Dragons trickled into stories, told by candlelight and in books for children. The river, once so vast and deep, shriveled some and changed with the landscape. Suddenly, there came a day when the earth shook and water swirled so violently, waking the dragon up from her sleep...
